My message this week will focus mainly on safety

Safer internet day is Tuesday 6th February. Our assemblies this week will be led by Mr Thompson and will focus on this important topic, as will PSCHE lessons and tutor time.  The internet is a fantastic tool and without question it has improved and changed the way we live. Communication, learning and sharing information have seen incredible advances in recent years. We are all also aware of the way the internet has changed the way shop and conduct business.

With these positives also come risks. You will have seen posters around the College which encourage you all only to make positive comments about others on social media and if you feel you cannot do this, you should not post anything at all. It is also essential that, if you use social media platforms, you should make sure your privacy settings are as high as possible and you know who you are communicating with. There is a tragic story of Breck Bednar, a teenage boy who was groomed and murdered by someone he met online. Sadly, this is not an isolated story and is something we must all be mindful of.

I urge you all, if you have any concerns about online safety to talk to a member of staff as soon as possible. We will support and help you. This doesn’t just apply to internet safety, of course, and you can also talk to any member of staff about any concerns you may have at any point, be that in school, at home, or on the journey to and from school.

This week’s sport results – thank you to all who represent our college:

Year 10 football team lost 2-1 to St Philip Howard

Year 8 netball team beat St Philip Howard 21-0 – lady of the match was Libby Evans

Year 8 netball team beat Bishop Luffa 7-1 – lady of the match was Levinia Tudgay

Year 7 rugby lost 30-10 to Oriel school – man of the match was Charlie Hanrahan

We have good relationships with the University of Chichester and also our local primary schools. It was great to see primary school children at MRC on Friday afternoon for a cross-country event, as well as some of our students participating in a trip to the University on Tuesday.

Have a good week – and remember to keep the school tidy!
