Thank you all for a busy and positive first week back.
Our theme for assemblies this week is happiness, which Mrs Dickens will lead. I would ask all of you to reflect on what you do and also can do to make others happy. I see students every day with friends every day and it is great to see you supporting and helping one another. I spoke to a very polite student this week in one of my lessons this week and thanked him for being so polite and having good manners. He replied that ‘manners cost nothing’ – very true and something we all can work to improve. Holding doors open, smiling at people, tidying away litter and being polite – very important to make MRC a better place, but also important for life.
I would like to thank our Head Boy and Girl team for the whole-college assembly they led this week. They did a great job telling everyone what it is they would like to focus on over the coming 12 months and I look forward to them starting in their new roles.
You may have noticed that we had some visitors in school this week on Thursday. We had four colleagues from United Learning, our academy sponsor, in for the day. This visit happens once term and they visit lessons, look at your work and also meet with some students. They were incredibly impressed with you on Thursday. They saw you working hard, being polite and being taught really well by your teachers. They did leave us with a challenge though…. They thought that in some cases, boys’ work is not as well presented as girls. I’d like to challenge all the boys to make sure that their work is as well presented as possible, please!
Options evening for Year 8 was really well attended and I am pleased that we have a careers advisor in college now to help you make choices about your future. This time of year is very bust for Year 11 and 13 students, who have exams at the moment. Year 10 and 12 will also have tests soon.
This week’s sports results. Thanks again to everyone for representing our College:
Year 8 netball team won 18-1 against the Regis – Lady of the match was Libby Evans and Levina Tudgay
Year 7 netball team came 2nd in the school games tournament, narrowly missing out on winning to Christs Hospital – lady of the match was Charlotte Baker
Have a good week!
