Welcome to Tennyson House
Hello and a warm welcome to Tennyson House! The Head of House for Tennyson is Mr Chaplin and your House Captain is Will Keohane. Firstly it is important to know the background information regarding our house. We are named after Lord Alfred Tennyson 1809- 1892, he was Poet Laureate of Great Britain and Ireland during much of Queen Victoria's reign and remains one of the most popular British poets.
Here is a look at some of his most famous pieces of work: "Break, Break, Break", “The Charge of the Light Brigade”, “Tears, Idle Tears” and “Crossing the Bar". How many do you recognise?
The Tennyson house is underpinned by The Three C’s. The Three C’s are: Community, Creative and Competitive.
Community: A strong community atmosphere where pupils from all year groups will interact and work together to achieve their maximum potential, older students will act as role models and mentors to the younger students.
Creativity: There will be a range of activities put on by all departments across the academic year, we will need everyone’s ideas and creativity to help us be the best house and create the winning team.
Competition: Everyone has a role to play in the house competition whether you take part directly in a house event or not, you need to embrace the competitive nature of the house system, be that competing to try and beat your own personal achievement and attendance score or taking part in the main house events. Everything you do affects the house… Don’t forget there are prizes up for grabs!!!!
What’s to come?
There will be various house events throughout the year led by the faculties within the College. This year they include; House Music, House Drama and Sports day. Students can win a trophy for their House. The overall winning House will win the House cup at the end of the academic year.
